Alabama cheerleader Abbie Stockard, 22, wins Miss America 2025 pageant – but fans say contest has been ‘destroyed’

In a dazzling display of talent and grace, Abbie Stockard, a 22-year-old nursing student and cheerleader from Birmingham, Alabama, emerged victorious as Miss America 2025. The competition, held on January 4 and 5 at the Walt Disney Theater in Orlando, saw Stockard outshine 51 other contestants representing all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.

Stockard’s journey to the crown was a testament to her perseverance and versatility. Competing in categories such as evening gown, talent, fitness, and the Hot Topic interview, she showcased a blend of intellect, physical fitness, and poise that captivated the judges and audience alike.

Her winning performance featured a dance routine to Lauren Daigle’s hit song “You Say,” a tribute to her personal inspirations: her hardworking mother and a close friend battling cystic fibrosis.

The Controversy Surrounding the Miss America Pageant

While Stockard’s victory was a moment of personal triumph, the Miss America 2025 pageant faced significant criticism from viewers and longtime fans.

Many expressed their dissatisfaction with the overall production quality, lamenting the event's shift from prime-time television to a YouTube stream. “Miss America used to be a major TV event,” one critic noted. “Now I have to search through YouTube to find it.”

Viewer Reactions

The backlash wasn’t directed at Stockard or the contestants but rather at the pageant’s organizers. Fans took to social media to voice their frustrations, calling for a major overhaul of the production.

“The significant reduction in production quality does a disservice to these great women,” one viewer commented, highlighting a common sentiment.

The Legacy of Miss America 2024

Stockard’s predecessor, Madison Marsh, the first active duty Air Force Officer to win the title, crowned her successor with grace. The pageant paid homage to Marsh’s achievements, celebrating her courage, determination, and service.

Despite the criticism, Stockard’s victory marks the fourth time a Miss Alabama has won the national title, a significant achievement for the state.

Her win, accompanied by a $50,000 prize, underscores the enduring appeal of the Miss America pageant as a platform for young women to showcase their talents and advocate for causes close to their hearts.

Looking Forward

As Miss America 2025, Abbie Stockard steps into a role that offers both opportunities and challenges. She is set to inspire a new generation while navigating the evolving landscape of the pageant world.

With calls for change growing louder, the future of Miss America may hinge on balancing tradition with modernity, ensuring it remains relevant and respected in a rapidly changing cultural landscape.

In the end, Stockard’s win is a reminder of the pageant’s core mission: to celebrate the multifaceted achievements of women across America.

Her story, one of resilience and inspiration, will undoubtedly resonate with many as she embarks on her year-long reign as Miss America 2025.
